I mean. You could do worse. The SM is a goddamn legend. I’ve only ever seen two , in person.

So fuckin fancy. So perfectly pretty, fast, comfortable, such a perfect spaceship on wheels constrained by 1970s regulations.

Kinja'd!!!

Show me more rad. Or perfect.

the SM is so cool. Would love to see one with a modern turbo V6 swap that keeps the hydraulic systems intact.

That was Citroen’s main problem here - and Peugeot, and Fiat, and BL. They just sold the cars, and after the owners drove off the dealer lot, they washed their hands of it. Crappy to nonexistent parts support, little to no training for mechanics/technicians, and a constant runaround on w arranty claims. A shame, it sent many perfectly fine and easily reliable cars to early graves and tarnished the reputations of some very fine brands.

This one lives near me, I met the owner at this show. I’ve seen this one on the road maybe once, but I do see him in his DS now and then.

There is a company ( SM2 ) that is starting to do restomods of those, it’s almost identical of external look (with 17" CNC’d alloys made inhouse instead of 15" TRX wheels) but with modern things underneath like modern electric windows, central locking or cruise control ; the car is lighter (modern sound dampening, aluminium radiators instead of copper ones, ...) and with better mass repartition.

The original Maserati V6 has been modified and now has ~210hp instead of 170hp) the max torque around 2500rpm instead of 4500 and a longer 5th gear.

Back in the late 80's there was one for sale at a used car lot in Newport, RI.  I stopped by to check it out, but at the time it seemed like it was overpriced at $9,000.  Live and learn I guess.
